    Abstract
    The German Space Operations Center (GSOC) as part of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) gained a lot of experience with satellite missions of different kinds. The mission types range from experimental to operational and the projects vary in terms of budget, number of involved parties and technological complexity of the space – and the ground segment.  This paper shall give an overview over various missions operated by GSOC. It will explain and compare customer needs and the derived operational implementation for flying missions with a special focus on new concepts for upcoming missions. For long-term or future missions it is important to adopt new technological or process-relevant developments to save resources and master increasing customer demands. Technological progress and designing new operational concepts are indispensable to acquire new customers with new demands and satisfy one’s own goals as a future oriented operational institution. Therefore ideas on how to improve the current operations are discussed. One is the modularity of a control center to help the customer use its systems and services according to his needs. The other is automation as a key-instrument for stability, responsiveness and efficiency.
