- Abstract
Recent activity in power beaming, alternately known as long-distance wireless power transmission, has shown progress towards the fielding of practical systems. Power beaming is a critical element for space solar, in which sunlight is collected in space for transmission to earth for terrestrial consumption. By tracking and comparing progress in the fielding of power beaming demonstrations and systems, assessments can be made as to the technology’s readiness for a range of practical applications, including space solar. This paper reviews power beaming inclusion criteria previously outlined and applies them to recent demonstrations to show progress as of mid-2018.
