- Abstract
This paper examines applications of knowledge management and sharing (KMS) in space. KMS can be applied at intra-institutional level by focusing at specific case-studies to enhance value at institutional level, or may be applied at inter-institutional level in support of partnerships, alliances in space and others. The analysis points at how both positive and negative externalities may arise depending on the nature of the level of application. In addition, the value of applying KMS in a continuous framework that integrates various stages of programs resulting in formal calibration of practices is examined. This reveals how external costs and benefits of completed programs may skew the real value versus their expected net value. An integrated, ‘post-mortem’ - approach that considers externalities is perceived as optimal for assessment and KMS applications.
