    Abstract
In 2008, the need of establishing a forum to discuss the challenges to build the future aerospace workforce drove to the International Astronautical Federation’s Space Education & Outreach and to the Workforce Development & Young Professionals Programme Committees to devise a dedicated Technical Session within the International Astronautical Congress. First held during the 60th IAC in Daejeon (Republic of Korea) as part of the Space Education and Outreach Symposium, this technical session addresses a key question for the global aerospace community: how to attract, develop and retain a highly motivated workforce. Since then, organizations from all over the world including industry, academia and institutions have shared their solutions, achievements and lessons learned. The present study analyses the evolution of the IAC Workforce Development Technical Session and provides an overview of the topics presented so far in this annual forum.
