- Abstract
Space insurance is an important enabler of innovation and investment in space programs. Over the past fifty years, insurance has grown and adapted to the changing nature of space programs, particularly with the increase in small satellites, small launch vehicles, and constellations. The start of commercial human spaceflight has, likewise, demonstrated the need for new insurance products and solutions. In addition, insurers have developed unique tools and capabilities to analyze the risks and threats associated with space activity. This paper provides an overview of space risks and their treatment as well as the results of analyses appropriate to new space technologies and applications.
