- Abstract
Mars 2117 is a program that aims to build a settlement on the red planet by the year 2117. With that goal in mind, the ultimate is goal is to ignite people with passion and motivation. While the program objective is to build a colony by the year 2117, the mission itself is a seed of ambition towards the younger generation, academia and space industry. This does not only apply for the United Arab Emirates, but the world as a whole community in establishing the goal. The mission is to establish a lasting human colony on the surface of mars by the year 2117. The vision is to enable the UAE to contribute to humanity’s interplanetary endeavors on settling Mars. The strategy is crucial for the UAE, as it enables local capabilities to have the know-how on building a human settlement on Mars. This takes place through four main pillars that are the foundation of this goal: research and development, education and outreach, collaboration and enablement. Research and development is one of the crucial criteria’s in supporting our strategy and the mission as a whole. Research and development allows the UAE to develop and pioneer in space industry. With that being said, research enables the mission to have a supporting foundation for its endeavors and allows us to pioneer in such futuristic goal. Education is another aspect that ignites this mission with passion and energy. The success of this mission relies on our younger generation on realizing what is at stakes with this mission. This pillar is critical, as building and equipping the generation, equips the whole mission. School curriculums and programs need to be matured, as to keep up with their motivation for such mission. As mentioned above, this mission is not only for the UAE, but the world. Therefore, collaboration comes into play, in creating an international know-how program that benefits all space agencies. This takes place through fostering partnerships and establishing a network that works on space programs with one main objective, Mars 2117. Lastly, comes in retrospect is enablement. Local capabilities need to be enabled to take a leading role into building this settlement, through partnerships and strategy that aid this mission.
