Established in 2015 by 100 Year Starship, the Award seeks to honor those who contribute to this field through their writing. A panel of experts in the fields of science, engineering, and literature evaluates each nominated work based on its scientific accuracy, literary quality, and overall contribution to the field of interstellar travel. The judges also consider the work's impact on public awareness and engagement with the concept of interstellar travel. The Canopus Award seeks to inspire and encourage new writers to explore the themes of interstellar travel and the possibilities it holds for humanity's future. It also recognizes established authors who have made significant contributions to the field of interstellar writing. Past winners of the award include Kevin J.
