    Abstract
The space industry is constantly growing worldwide; therefore, the research and technology in the field are going through accelerated development. Since 1961 the South American region has shown a development in space technology. At the same time, scientific research and publication are essential to share research findings with other scientists worldwide to allow technological development and innovation. For example, by the year 2022, the countries of the South American region achieved a total of 164,948 scientific publications in the SCOPUS database.
In this sense, this article seeks to develop an analysis of the scientific production in the space area indexed in the SCOPUS database in the South American region, to identify and quantify our region's contribution to generating scientific knowledge in the space field. For this purpose, advanced search techniques were used in SCOPUS through equations based on logical operators and the combination of keywords; this analysis is important to understand better the contributions in this area by country and on specific research topics.
Finally, this quantitative analysis makes visible the scientific development of South America in the space sector. In addition, reflections are presented to strengthen scientific and research activities in the region and reinforce current efforts to integrate the development of joint activities in the space sector of South America.
