- Abstract
This paper discusses design and development of a liquid hydrogen turbopump demonstrator TPX for a 130 000 kg thrust main stage gas generator engine being developed by Snecma under contract for French Space Agency CNES. Turbine components are being developed by Volvo Aero Corporation under contract for Swedish Space Agency SNSB. The main objectives of the development of TPX demonstrator are listed here below :
- Decrease of recurring costs (low number of parts, use of blisk turbine rotors)
- Increase of robustness (margins demonstration and high life duration)
- Improvement of design tools by applying methods and numerical codes developed in the frame of Research & Technology programs (e.g. fluid bearings, cavitation, open impeller).
These benefits will be accomplished and demonstrated through design, development, and test of this one stage open impeller hydrogen turbopump capable of supplying 50 kg/sec of liquid hydrogen at 210 bars.
