    Abstract
The missions realised by small satellites will become more and more various and complex. Thus, they will require high performances subsystems specially designed and optimized to small platforms.
In the field of communications subsystems, the next generation of the TT&C and payload telemetry equipments should be flexible and able to download higher data bit rates with low and optimized power consumptions.
Through R&D studies performed since 2006, CNES is preparing a new generation of communications subsystems specially dedicated for small platforms.
The goals of these studies concern both the improvement of the subsystem architectures and the performances of equipments.
The paper describes two different architectures specifically dedicated to small platforms. The first one is a dual S/X band architecture which allows downloading telemetry in the range of 100kbps to 10 Mbps from a single S band flexible modem. The second one presents a distributed system of X band cells with extended antenna coverage for agile satellite.
These architectures are based on the use of high performances RF modules which are also described in the paper.
The performances of these modules bring some important benefits in term of power consumption (high efficiency RF power amplifiers) or mechanical sizes (stand alone X band module).
The modules are designed with COTS in order to achieve high performances but the most critical circuits have been pre selected taking into account quality criteria and thanks to CNES MYRIADE micro satellite feed back.
