    Abstract
The American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) recently formed a Commercial Space Group (CSG) in recognition of the significant impact the many space-related industry sectors have, or are demonstrating a real potential to have, on the global economy.
This report will describe the creation and formation of the group, drawing from the ranks of its traditional membership and involving members of the many space-related industry sectors that have not comprised the AIAA ranks in the past.
The purpose and structure of the CSG will describe the scope and target audiences of the group.
The two principal functional areas of the CSG, Activities and Issues, will be detailed and a description of past and planned activities in both of these areas will be highlighted.
