- Abstract
European Union is expanding its activities in outer space. Three of its flagship programs – EGNOS, Galileo and Copernicus – are in their operational stage, others under deliberation. It can be observed that in its space programs and appropriate legal acts, European Union stresses both the compatibility of its programs with the UN space treaties and the need of further development of space law, but also the necessity to guarantee the availability of the frequency spectrum for its projects. The paper analyses this integrated approach of the Union; it observes its legal position towards UN space treaties and compares it with the highly harmonized area of European telecommunication law. It concludes by comparing this method with the approach of the 2007 UN Resolution on International Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
