    Abstract
Astrobiology aims at the understanding of the emergence of life in the Universe. This implies a good knowledge of the environmental conditions of extra-solar planets which may harbour it. Stellar astrophysics provides the required information about the magnetic and radiation environment and its evolution with time. The current status of this field is reviewed together with the implications for astrobiology. In addition, essential tools for the study of stellar structure can be exploited in the benefit of the study of extra-solar planets. This is mainly ultra-high precision photometry applied to asteroseismology and eclipsing binary stars as well as the characterization of extra-solar planetary transits. A clear example of this connection is the recently launched mission COROT and new methods to extract information about extra-solar planets from observed transits are presented using equations initially derived for the analysis of eclipsing binaries.
