- Abstract
As the global village continues to decrease in size, the scope of the world’s problems become increasingly apparent. However, this increased visibility with regard to international issues also increases our accessibility and ability to define the scope of the problem. The burgeoning field of telemedicine does exactly this, by increasing our ability to access, communicate with and provide portable technologies to remote areas across the globe, thereby increasing healthcare quality on an international scale. This paper examines the role of telemedicine in helping define and implement international medical standards, the status of the industry today, and the ever-growing role of the private sector in this field.
