- Abstract
The IMPRESS project, co-funded by ESA and the European Commission with substantial contributions from private industry, aims at using data obtained in space to complement ground-based research in the field of intermetallics research. The project is build on a chain approach, with the scientific researchers at the one end, and the industrial end-users at the other end, determining together the objectives and approach to be followed. Two complete end-products have been defined: turbineblades for aircraft engines having lighter weight and allowing higher operating temperatures, and low-cost catalysts for hydrogen fuel cells. The R\&D activities are progressing very well, and space data have provided valuable contributions to the selection and characterisation of the chosen materials. Some scientific results will be presented, as well as the future outlook of the project including prototype production and market perspectives.
