- Abstract
DFH satellite Co. Ltd. is currently studying the Yinghuo-1 Minisat Mars Explorer, Yinghuo-1 operating around an elliptical Mars equator orbit focuses on the investigation of Mars’ global space environment. The present paper describes the candidate Yinghuo-1 system concept, based on a Mini-satellite platform developed by DFH satellite Co. Ltd.. It addresses the exploration mission orbit analysis, the hostile Mars environment analysis, the integrated on-board avionics system, the communication system, the power generation issue, as well as the need for high autonomy on-board and ground station capability. The proposed system mixing conservative approaches and innovative solutions based on CAST-DFH experience in scientific exploration satellite development and on its technical expertise in mini-satellite development. The use of mini-satellite platform for Yinghuo-1 Mars Exploration mission using a suite of highly miniaturized and integrated on-board equipments, with strongly reduced resource requirements. This is very favorable for Yinghuo-1 facing stringent on-board resource requirement constraint. The purpose of this approach is to achieve the science objectives with a phased, cost efficient exploration, resulting in a reduced overall mission risk, when compared to a large exploration mission.
