- Abstract
Current plans of space-faring nations around the world envision a human return to the Moon in about a decade with a subsequent exploration of lunar surface and the establishment of surface installations. These will eventually be developed into a Moon Base with various possible utilisation aspects. This study analyses and prioritizes possible goals of manned lunar exploration for the first ten years of human presence on the Moon. The study was performed by the MoonMars workshop and included formulating a list of feasible goals for the first decade of exploration, analyzing the benefits and requirements of each goal and assigning priorities to each of them. After deciding on the goals that the lunar base should accomplish, we have assessed the implications of each goal on the future lunar base.
