    Abstract
Much attention has been paid to the space-borne LIDAR such as LITE, CALIOP, ALADIN and JEM-CDL in order to provide the global observations of the clouds, aerosols and wind profiles. Direct detection technologies have been used in LITE, CALIOP and ALADIN which are easy to realize but of lower gain, anti-jamming and sensitivity compared with coherent detection technologies used in JEM-CDL which is complex and strict with high quality alignment. This paper uses the autodyne detection technology in the space-borne LIDAR which is a kind of coherent detection but needs no local oscillator and strict alignment. Birefringence dual frequency lasers are used as the transmitter subsystem and the receiver subsystem has three channels for the autodyne detection: One channel can be used for the measurement of clouds, aerosols and wind velocity, the other two channels can be used to analysis the depolarization characteristics of the targets.
