    Abstract
The terminology of gravity gradient tensor has been introduced into the description of spacecrafts’ relative motion, and a general form of differential equations for relative motion of spacecrafts has been successfully deduced. This paper provides a clear mathematical description of the algorithm for autonomous orbit navigation and orbit determination based on relative measurements under the concept of gravity gradient tensor. A novel method is proposed to determine the position of a spacecraft that requires only one measurement of relative position vector and relative acceleration vector. A novel autonomous orbit determination method with the help of advanced filter is designed. Simulation results indicate the feasibility of the method as well as some limitations.
