    Abstract
Above 10 GHz rain poses serious problem in communication due to attenuation effect. Hence knowledge of rain attenuation statistics is necessary in the design of radio frequency bands. Moreover, rainfall attenuation at the millimeter wave frequency range can also be used to predict rainfall rate both on ground and the rainfall rate along the entire rain column. Measurements on attenuation have been carried over in different parts of the world covering different geographical locations at various frequencies. Various models on rainfall attenuation also have been proposed over different geographical locations. Prediction of exact rainfall rate is still in a dilemma and so also the rainfall related hazards. In this paper an attempt has been made to review the proposed models available in literature and the measurements carried all over the world. Comparative studies of the models, their advantages and draw backs have also been discussed. Attempts have been made to overcome the draw backs in the existing models.
