    Abstract
In the paper the results of two mobile measurement campaigns, performed in Munich and in Kopenhagen are shown, which highlight the possible use of Ku-band satellites for broadcast to cars.

On the transmission side a file-based concept was used, which actually is based on a change of paradigm concerning radio service and its distribution. The central aspect is the surrender of the necessity of continuous connection between sender and receiver.

Instead, a file-based approach was used and the measurement campaign highlights the effect of such an approach on system performance.

Besides long physical layer interleavers, also file-oriented error correction schemes are used and their capabilities in the land-mobile satellite channel analyzed.

Finally, the extension of the concept to an interactive reliable scheme is indicated and it is shown, how one could design an effective system for a low-data rate return-channel and use the file-oriented forward error correction also in multicast re-transmissions.
