    Abstract
In the last decade the market of access to space is increasing, always more countries let the growth of their economy and their security and environmental politic pass through a space program. The needs of an easy, chip and fast access to space is increasing and involve new actors.
To answer to this demanding market pass through new technologies and research activities aims to simplify system and their development. In this framework key technologies for standardization and interchangeability shall be identify while maintaining low cost and high reliability.
Carlo Gavazzi Space has been involved in this market for a long time and new technical solutions are always under development and discussion. These solution include Spacewire bus for data handling, software interface supporting Spacewire protocol and mechanical interface standardization.
The Space wire bus has been identified as one of the new solution for Carlo Gavazzi Space system data handling since it has several advantages in the development of space systems:

    - compatibility between different equipment, in order to facilitate integration, testing and reduce schedule and costs
    - Integration and test of on-board systems with ground support equipment complexity can be reduced plugging directly into the on-board data-handling system.
    - Master-slave architecture that could foresee different Masters and several slave devices
    - Full-duplex, point-to-point, serial data communication links with High Data Rate up to 400 Mbits/sec
    - Possibility to increase the modularity of the overall space segment through the adoption of a spacewire Network
    - Possibility to spread the elaboration capability over different subsystem and boards, increasing modularity and interchangeability,
    - Possibility to have Data handling unit internal bus and external bus to payload and subsystem of the same type, increasing software modularity and interchangeability
    - Possibility to implement flexible architectures, with high tolerance against failures

Carlo Gavazzi Space s.p.a. has already started its roadmap for the massive usage of spacewire bus in its system. In particular It has developed the Gavazzi Next generation Command and Data management Unit (CDMU) to be flown in the ARGO mission by the Taiwanese Space Agency (NSPO). The most relevant feature of the CDMU is that all of its main modules are connected together and communicate by means of SpaceWire links. SpaceWire packets are routed from/to the Board Computer and the other modules by a SpaceWire Multiplexer-Demultiplexer, which is a subset of a SpaceWire router. The main advantages of this configuration will be presented together with the next steps for the next generation of standard Gavazzi space system.
