    Abstract
The probabilistic approach adopted for ascertaining the set of loading conditions to which a structural configuration is subjected may not account for the non-homogeneity and existing non-linearities in the behavior at micro structural level which initiates the failure under severe impact loading conditions. Such failures propagate under recurring effect of non-continuous loading with respect to time. Structural response within limited degree of freedom never attains optimum performance, which results to unpredictable failure and non-instrumental early warning system in underperforming structures.
The past experiences have shown that failures at micro structural level have originated at non-critical surfaces and creeped through a series of non-conventional defect paths. The initial condition under which response is studied is based upon certain assumptions regarding the homogeneity and isotropic properties of the material.
But in a dynamical system the initial variance amplifies to the extent that the initial values are never obtained the phenomenon is very much in conformity with the increasing entropy and quasi-static equilibrium condition making the process irreversible, which is evident from the hysteresis curve obtained. With amplifying variance after each progressive cycle which corresponds to increasing non-homogeneity and non-linearities / defects per cycle.
The paper aims at developing such models on the principle of controlled distribution of non-homogeneity and self regulating isotropy throughout the structure based upon the study of entropy for the system which can be employed as a scale of assessment for the structural performance in attaining the equilibrium/ initial values and to study their energy dissipating abilities with the help of chaos dynamic model. For the purpose of sustainable development the same model will be instrumental in optimizing the defect distribution for the intelligent genesis of the same for recurring adverse peak load conditions without interfering with the structural performance of the system significantly.
