    Abstract

Wide possibilities of considerable reduction of the weight of aerospace engineering objects (AEO) are provided by using therein sandwich structures with honeycomb cores (HC), which play an important role in guaranteeing high bearing capacity of honeycomb structures (HS). However, HC quality, functional properties and stability are predetermined by its manufacturing technique. HC manufacturing is now an independent branch, serving consumers of many fields, and as much as 70 Pronounced technological inheritance of HC and honeycomb structures (HS), sources of which are technological imperfections or defects occurring at various stages of the process of HC manufacturing and subsequent HS production, causes integral changes in predicted (design) characteristics of honeycomb cores and deviations in HS bearing capacity, in many instances beyond the limits of prescribed tolerance range. The paper contains theoretical and practical results including analysis of state-of-the-art processes and operations of manufacturing honeycomb cores for AEO; general assessment of HC quality with relation to the technological inheritance, sources of which are technological imperfections and defects in materials and deviations in operating practices of HC manufacturing and subsequent HS production which results in deterioration of HC design characteristics and HS bearing capacity. The paper offers multi-level classification of technological defects occurring at various stages of HC manufacturing of metallic foil and polymeric papers, which serves as the basis for scientific substantiation of ranges of tolerance as to technological defects, by means of development of mathematical models thereof and methods of standardization. Results of the above investigations are used in creation of AEO designs at specialized enterprises of Ukraine and Russia.
