- Abstract
The deep-drawing and ironing behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet have been investigated. Deep-drawing and ironing process were carried out over a wide range of the forming temperature and friction condition. The relationship between the LDR and deep drawing conditions, the surface texture after deep- drawing and ironing have been discussed. The punch surface was changed by coating or roughening. The die surface was also changed by coating. The shoulder radius of die and punch was set to 3.0mm, 5.0mm, respectively. Five kinds of lubrication condition were used. The forming temperature was changed from the room-temperature to 400 centigrade. It was recognized that LDR curve shows a nose shape and the best forming temperature is about 200 centigrade. The combination of the die with TiC coating and rough punch without coating gives the largest LDR. A large die shoulder radius in the experimental range can somewhat improve LDR. A mineral base oil has little effect on LDR. The addition of solid lubricant PTFE or BN can excellently improve the forming limit. The temperature of heat treatment has almost no effect on LDR.
