    Abstract
Test plays an important role in the launch vehicle product design. But test data is very insufficient for known reasons, such as short of test expense, high test risk. Virtual test can greatly reduce the test expense, rich test data, avoid test risk, so it is widely used to aid real test. The purpose of this paper is to describe the method and application of modeling and simulation technology in the area of launch vehicle virtual test.
First of all, the main problems in virtual test are proposed, including test data managing, test run flow, test model integration and test result collecting.
Secondly, a virtual test software framework is designed to solve these virtual test problems. This framework is based on various modeling and simulation technologies, including distributed interactive simulation, computer grid and web service. The framework is made up of two parts: server side and client side. Server side is the manager of entire system. The main modules include resource managing, user managing, data managing. Client side is installed on every compute node in the network. It reports state of client to server side, at the same time takes charge of the local scheduling of test work.
To fulfill this framework’s requirements, a model wrapper method is used to easily wrap math model into federation, which standing to the interface criterion of HLA (High Level Architecture). Computer grid controls the run of federation in the LAN. For the purpose of load-balance, computer grid chooses the fittest machine for special work mission. All the functions in computer grid are encapsulated into some kinds of web services. End users can use these web services through either program or virtual test portal.
Finally, all the project models are integrated according to the above framework and several launch vehicle virtual test application systems are developed. Different type of virtual test is made based on DOE (Design of Experiment). Many experiment methods are used and lots of virtual test data is produced. Test results demonstrate that modeling and simulation technology can be used widely in the launch vehicle virtual test. Test expense is saved and virtual test data is sufficient for test evaluation.
