- Abstract
The Innovation Triangle Initiative (ITI) is a mechanism set-up by the European Space Agency (ESA) to support the introduction and fast validation of innovative concepts or technologies for space applications. This paper highlights the innovative aspects of ITI with respect to the more classical Space Research and Development Programmes and Management Practices of ESA. In addition, a short description of the results obtained by the concluded research activities sponsored in the context of the ITI from 2004 to 2006 will also be given. The paper will also include the results of an independent evaluation made by a panel of international experts in innovation and Research and Development management on the whole ITI concept. Finally, the paper is concluded with the description and rational behind the planned evolution of ITI.
