- Abstract
Within the scope of space activities, human spaceflight and exploration generates probably the highest attraction to the young generation and is therefore a favourite subject as well as carrier of education content. The paper provides a survey of the education activities of the ESA Human Spaceflight, Microgravity and Exploration (HME) Directorate, which reaches from printed material for primary and secondary schools, over interactive IT based products, up to "hands-on" activities for university students. Issues such as bringing education content in line with national curricula, and the marketing and distribution of education products will be addressed as well. The paper discusses also the planned further evolution of the HME education programme, which will aim at a) shifting the focus from the currently mainly ISS-related products to more Exploration-related activities, and b) better exploiting the awareness potential of education activities with respect to the general public.
