    Abstract
50 years ago marked the dawn of the space age. We have often heard, and will continue to hear, the “movers and shakers”—engineers, scientists, astronauts and political decision-makers—telling us about the passion that fired them, their choices and actions, and their past and present expectations. But what do intellectuals, philosophers, sociologists and others think? This communication, while not seeking to be exhaustive, examines what thinkers from the French-speaking sphere have said about space, among them Dominique Lecourt and Hans Wiesmann on human spaceflight, and Michel Serres on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the French space agency CNES.
