    Abstract
The mission planning is a very critical technology for Rendezvous and Docking (RVD). With the experience from China’s future Shenzhou Capsule RVD mission planning project, and also based on the published references related to US, Russia and ESA RVD missions, this paper surveys the RVD mission planning according to three parts: problem formulation, design constraints and design software. We formulate the integrated RVD mission planning problems as four-level problems: the first-level problems are flight experiments arrange and launch window planning, the second-level are target orbit design and chase orbit design, the third-level are rendezvous flight segment planning and departure flight segment planning, and the four-level problems are normal trajectory design and real-time trajectory control. The main constraints in accord with mission planning are summarized in nine parts: TTC system constraint, target spacecraft constraint, chase spacecraft constraint, launch vehicle constraint, sun light constraint, low-earth environment constraint, measure facility constraint, safety constraint and payload requirements. A simple survey on the mission planning software developed by US, Russia and ESA is made, and the mission planning software developed by the authors are introduced detailed in the development method and the main functions.
