- Abstract
The IAA Study Group on Multilingual Space Terminology has been conducting a continuous work on a multilingual dictionary on space-related terms since 1990s. In 1996, the first version of the lexicon with corresponding 2,614 terms from 16 languages was published. In 2002 the dictionary was transported to the computer database system using the recent internet technology. The database is accessible from all over the world via the internet, by which you can search for the terms everywhere. In the present, the lexicon includes 2,628 terms, which has slightly increased by adding a few terms to the original dictionary. In 2007 to 2008, three new languages have joined the project and the number of participating languages became to be 19. Moreover, some Asian languages are interested in the project and they will also be added to the lexicon in the near future. The database is a flexible system enabling the addition of new terms and languages very easily. This paper addresses the current status of the multilingual dictionary activities promoted by the IAA Study group and the development of the database system.
