Keynote: THE CONTINUING ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS IN HUMAN SPACEFLIGHT

- Abstract
International partnerships have historically been a cornerstone of space exploration. From early partnerships on science missions, to the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, to the U.S.-Canada Space Shuttle partnership, and onto the myriad intergovernmental agreements that govern the flagship International Space Station program, international partnerships are a driving force behind successful spaceflight programs. Today, NASA is developing human spaceflight missions that go beyond the low Earth orbit of the ISS. International partnerships for hardware, software, science, and human support will continue to play a key role in humanity’s expansion into the Solar System. As development of these programs moves into an operational capability, capitalizing on these opportunities for cooperation will be a requirement for mission success.
